Graphic Form of Kando: The theme for the GDAY Award comes from the Japanese word and philosophy. “KANDO”, which means “for the heart” or “to be deeply moved”. The Philosophy of Kando sits at the core of both Yamaha brands. The GDAY Award hopes to seekout new graphic ideas that will become part of a wider universal language the corporations can share.

This set of pictograms is about the idea of water ripples. Movement in the water causes these beautiful marks. Kando means to be moved. My idea came from imagining a still water then something suddenly drops or touches it. Musical instruments and motors touches our lives and disrupts us from the usual routine bringing joy to our lives. The stillness of the water describes our usual lives and when we add our passion or dreams or something we love into it, it creates this beautiful marks and that is how I got the idea water ripples. These things give us so much more to live for.  They are not necessities but it makes our life or time on this world more meaningful. We can never see  the beauty in life if we do not get moved by anything. If nothing makes us happy or excited life would be so  boring. Life would be like the still water. We want those ripples we want something that moves us and that is what kando really is.

This set of pictograms was  about these happy chemicals that i came across through my intensive research. I asked this question what has music and motor have something in common?  Then  I read an article stating that playing musical instruments  and riding motorcycles release these happy chemicals  in our brain  that boost our mood or makes us happy and create like a party in our brain. That relates to kando. Kando is the joy we experience when we  are engaged to something that makes  us happy something that moves us.

Our heart rates changes every time we do something exciting or something we love. This captures that passionate moment, the sensation we feel  and experience every time we do something out of the ordinary.
